surrounded by Portugal, Castile, Asturias and Leon which are Spanish regions, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south, the east, and the west and north respectively. There is also a community known as Galicia which is situated in the city of New York, which itself is situated in the United States of America. The community is formed by immigrants who came to the city from Spain, and they live together in that community. Just like most of the western part of Europe, people have migrated from Galicia in large numbers to look for greener pastures. The Galician people moved to a number of places in Latin America including Cuba, Argentina, and Uruguay, as well as to other places in Spain. There was a lot of migration during the nineteenth century and the early part of the twentieth centuries. During the time when Spain was ruled by Franco, there was another eave of people who migrated, and they went to various European countries including the United Kingdom, France, and Switzerland. A lot of them also moved to the United States of America, and one of the communities which were formed was in New York City and also known as Galicia. Besides the community in New York, there are also a lot of other clubs and groups which have formed all over the world. The number of people who have migrated from Galicia has been so large that various web sites have been formed, such as Fillos de Galicia, to inform and organize the Galician's located all over the world. |
